The Quickref Mockup has changed significantly in the last few weeks, especially the position of the filters, see below.

Technical limitations of this mockup:

  • This mockup works well on large screen setups, it doesn’t work in mobile environments (and thus probably not as well with zoomed text). This is a limitation of the bootstrap framework.
  • The search is not yet working. Making it work is one of the tasks that I will tackle for April.

Changes:

  • On the left you can find a navigation that shows where you are in the long document.
  • On the top of the navigation bar there are (new) tabs that allow to switch to filters, presets and tags.
  • Filtering for techniques (new!) and levels is now working, the other categories will be included in the next step. (The filter criteria are coming up on top but are not yet announced by screen readers. Hiding filtered categories happens instantly – there is no visual feedback at the moment.)
  • All Techniques button is now working.
  • Guideline 1.3 was added.
  • A few success criteria for guideline 1.4 were added.

Open Questions:

  • How do you like the left hand navigation bar? Does it feel intuitive? (Note that this is not the final design.)
  • We might have an overlap between tags and filters and need to decide what we want to use. With the Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools List we slimmed the filtering down to a few categories, I think that would be beneficial here as well.
  • Should the tags be organized by the number of times they are used? Usually that is a good thing to do, yet we sometimes have only a few techniques on one topic that isn’t too well understood (for example focus order) and many on topics that are well understood (for example images).

Work for April:

  • Provide search functionality (full text search)
  • Decide on which filters to use, if we need presets and how to best display tabs and make them usable.
  • Design improvements
