As a starting point for discussion, I've drawn a diagram of the Thing-related terms being discussed.
The original file (in #708) was created in PowerPoint and converted to SVG, so it was difficult to edit. For this reason, it was rewritten using draw.io. Although it is an SVG file, the original draw.io file is also embedded, so it can be edited as is with draw.io.
