Heya,

this is quick announcement regarding the current state and future of Luna. I am fully aware of the number of bugs that are currently unresolved, yet I'm also writing my bachelor thesis at the moment so I don't really have the time to do any development on Luna. Once I'm done I'll look through all the reported issues and exceptions reported to Eos again and fix what I can.

Meanwhile, if anyone feels compelled to fill the gap I'm happy to provide any information and help you'd need.

That being said, here's my plan for the rest of the year (well, after I'm done with my thesis):

  • enhance Eos to provide proxied and unified access to different game APIs
  • add a filter option as proposed in EoS Error #136 (last comment)
  • bring back the ability to launch games from Kodi's Home Menu (or simply launch Steam for that matter)
  • finally listen to @dodslaser and issue systemd calls instead of using bash scripts for launching the stream / stopping & starting Kodi
  • release bundled versions of Luna for OpenELEC, ... (as proposed by @dead)
  • add a comprehensive requirements file, e.g. for AUR
  • ... anything else that comes up :)

In the meantime, I'd like to encourage everyone using Luna to re-think their decision about opting out of telemetry data - everything that's gathered is clearly stated in the ReadMe and this information does help a lot. Additionally, knowing that people are actually using Luna keeps me motivated (and I'm checking the user count pretty regularly, since it's one simple query - right now we're at about 190 users, i.e. users who didn't opt out of telemetry, which isn't too much). If you wanted to use Luna but got turned off by whatever reason, please make sure to let me know why, either via an issue or send me an email.

Thanks for your understanding!

HEY! Good work!

I am looking forward to working with you next year :)
The better it works, the more PI is an XBOX One alternative.

Great news. Looking forward to giving Luna another try now that it is more mature. Give me a shout if you need any help with the systemd stuff.

Maybe it is possible to add to your list the Wireless Controller Issue :(

At the moment i try it with the DBUS like your great Tutorial #148 but we know there is a lo of issues or mistakes in the config :(

@BoBBer446: that will be part of the "looking through all the issues" process ;-)

@dodslaser: Can you send me an email (my address can be found on my GH profile)? Actually got a few things that I'd like to discuss, but not publicly. What I will say openly however is that I feel we started off on the wrong foot, which is something I kind of regret and like to remedy. I still believe in the reasons I gave for Luna's existence a while back, yet I more strongly believe that we can forge something really amazing by working together (if you do have the time, of course).

Nice to know you haven't dropped the project. There's a gap that this fits perfectly.
Would you mind dropping a line here when you get back to it? Thanks! 😃

I buyed a Steam Link now... But that's creepy shit :D

I love to use my RPI 3 b with Luna. But the first think you have to do is your private live. Real life first... Maybe we can say rlf .... That's sounds bad....rlf... You see, I follow you and if I can help I do it :)

Maybe worth directing people towards Raspberry Pi Steamlink?
