Cannot send email to me@mailinator.com with lexical branch

Using the gmail smtp server, I cannot send email with the lexical scoping branch to me@mailinator.com. I can send email to <me@mailinator.com>

This is the error I get:

wl-draft-send-mail-with-smtp: SMTP response error: 553, "5.1.3 The recipient address < me@mailinator.com> is not a valid RFC-5321", "5.1.3 address. o1sm9436942pjf.17 - gsmtp"
