Browser / Version: Firefox Mobile 101.0
Operating System: Android 11
Tested Another Browser: Yes Chrome

Problem type: Something else
Description: doesn't open the banking app and using the web browser link doesn't seem to work either. I always have to switch to Chrome for this action
Steps to Reproduce:
Everytime I open an e-transfer link, and am given the option to use the app or the browser, I need to switch to Chrome. It never opens the app and the browser doesn't seem to direct to the correct bank page.

We appreciate your report. I was able to reproduce the issue. The "Mobile App" option does not respond, regardless if the app is installed or not:
firefox app option nightly

The "Web browser" option works as expected, as the login page is displayed:
firefox browser option

Tested with:

Browser / Version: Firefox Release 101.1.1 (2015882827-🦎101.0-20220526203855 )/ Firefox Nightly 103.0a1 (2015883915-🦎103.0a1-20220531065724🦎)/ Chrome Mobile Version 102.0.5005.78
Operating System: Samsung A51 (Android 11) -1080 × 2400 pixels 20:9 aspect ratio (~405 ppi density)
Operating System: Google Pixel 3 (Android 12) -1080 x 2160 pixels, 18:9 ratio (~443 ppi density)

Notes:

  1. Reproducible regardless of the status of ETP.
  2. Reproducible on the latest build of Firefox Nightly and Release.
  3. Reproducible regardless of the state of the "Open links in apps" browser option.
  4. Works as expected using Chrome:

chrome app

Moving this to NeedsDiagnosis for further investigations.

The "mobile app" option tries to navigate to this intent URL, which doesn't seem to work:

intent://receiveetransfer?etransfertoken=CAnMdTwy#Intent;scheme=pcfbanking;package=com.pcfinancial.mobile;end

Apparently it's an unknown protocol. I'll ask around to see what's going on here.

Odd. It looks like they are tripping an anti-malware check that's in Firefox for Android, where the "continue" button submits a form, which then redirects to the intent: url from a subframe? (I may be wrong on the details, it's a bit weird).

I'll see if the engineer who tipped me off on this can find a solution which isn't considered risky, but maybe we should contact them to find out why this is the approach they took. @denschub, do we have a contact ready?
