URL: http://putevod-zvezda.ucoz.ru/static/tinzin.htm
Browser / Version: Firefox Mobile 36.0
Operating System: Android
Problem type: Looks like the browser has a bug
Site owner: No

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Navigate to: http://putevod-zvezda.ucoz.ru/static/tinzin.htm
  2. The Cyrillic encoding is mojibake.

Expected Behavior: Cyrillic letters
Actual Behavior: Mojibake

It works well in Chrome on the same device.

Hey @amire80, I'm trying to understand this bug a little bit better. Here's a screenshot of what I see on my devices:

thumb

The left is Chrome Mobile Beta--your page actually crashes stable Chrome Mobile for me. ^_^
The right is Firefox for Android. On my devices, Firefox has Cyrillic letters while Chrome doesn't.

Is this what you see? Do you have your default encoding set to something other than utf-8?

The page has no charset information - neither in HTTP headers nor HTML markup.

I tested in Firefox and Chrome on desktop. Both show mojibake here, but in Chrome the "do you want to translate?" prompt appears and apparently it has figured out that the page is supposed to be in Russian. This is not deduced from the domain name either - I tried loading the same content from a different country domain and saw exactly the same thing. Odd :)

I have no issue with this text on Firefox Desktop.

I still have the same issue with this on desktop Firefox (v34, Fedora 21). It does work on desktop Chrome.

And I still have the same issue with this on Firefox Nightly from today, but not on mobile Chrome.

this site should include a correct encoding declaration, and it's also broken in Chrome on Android for me

Firefox 43.0a1 (2015-08-25) seems to detect it is Cyrillic Windows. Am I the only one?

The site owner is putevodzvezda2013@yandex.ru
Maybe @amire80 you could send him an email to add the charset information.

Thanks.

This must have been fixed on Firefox side.
