I'm not so sure it was completely obsolete. Sure there are better alternatives, but only if you know how to use them (EGP, GPU, Console Screen...)

Or a screen and some buttons?

Regardless, it was broken. Kaputt. (At least for me.) Maybe this happened recently, or maybe it had been broken for a long time - because nobody used it, nobody knew.

And besides, it had no newline at the end of the file, and therefore had to die.
