As it seems clear that no more testing will happen, I'm merging this to at least have a chance of people testing this in 3.1.5. |

This is extracted from #2002 and probably should not be merged because I suspect this is going to break things on non-Mac platforms.
Any testing of this with non-default Linux (or Windows) themes would be very appreciated.
