Beeftext is now in maintenance mode

i have decided to put Beeftext in maintenance mode.

What does it mean?

  • The software will not be actively developed anymore.
  • I will provide fixes when updates to Windows break its behavior, as I did when a Windows 11 update last year caused trouble last year.
  • Do not expect any new feature.
  • No new translation will be integrated.

Why?

  • Beeftext started because I needed a decent text expander on Windows, and it now does all I need. The most requested new features (sync and collaboration related) require too much time for me to implement.
  • I now spend 99% of my time on macOS, as it's now the OS I use professionally. Alfred does a good job as a text expander, so do not expect a macOS version of Beeftext.
  • I have other projects I want to focus on. It's not a matter of money, it's a matter of time.

That being said, Beeftext is not dead, you can still safely use it, for free, and as I already said, I will try to ensure it keeps working with future evolutions of Windows.

Some numbers that I was not expecting to see.

  • Nearly 50K downloads for v16.0 alone. The total number of download is above 300K, but it includes self-updates, so it is not extremely relevant.
  • 48 releases (including beta).
  • 882 commits so far.
