Introduction

The Data and SMS (Tech) workspaces + packages contain the dual-redundant, long-range communication system used by Yonah during technical development and flight testing. It is used in conjunction with MAVProxy GCS

Background

Conventional UAV radio communication methods such as the RfD900 are easy to set up, well-documented, and provide stable, secure communication within Visual Line-of-Sight flight. However, Yonah's flight tests and operations are expected to go Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight, thus a BVLOS solution is required.

The Data and SMS (Tech) ROS packages fulfill this long-range requirement by tapping on regional LTE, 3G and 2G networks.

NEMO-UAV

Note that this system is only designed to be operated by members of Yonah's Technical Team, for the purpose of supportingn flight tests. For a more general system that can be used in actual flight operations, refer to the Ops-Ground-Control workspace.
