Simple installation for Windows (Windows XP and newer, I don't know whether it works on Windows 2000):

  • download nfs2se-win32-v1.4.0.zip and unpack it,
  • insert original CD-ROM with Need For Speed II SE (or mount/unpack CD image),
  • copy fedata and gamedata directories into previously unpacked Need For Speed II SE directory,
  • run nfs2se.exe!

If you updating, you should run clean_config.bat and confirm, because the configuration file has changed a lot!

Linux requirements:

  • x86 CPU (if you have 64-bit Linux you must install all needed 32-bit libraries)
  • 32-bit glibc 2.3.4 (game) and glibc 2.9 (SDL2) or newer
  • 32-bit OpenGL (libGL.so.1)
  • 32-bit X11 (for SDL2)

The Linux installation is similar to Windows installation except one thing: all files and directories MUST have small letters (script for changing this is available inside package)!

Android installation (tested on Android 4.4, 11, and 13):

  • download nfs2se-android-armv7-v1.4.0.zip and unpack it,
  • move the unpacked NFSIISE directory into /sdcard or /storage/emulated/0
  • copy fedata and gamedata directories (from original game) into previously unpacked Need For Speed II SE directory,
  • install the nfs2se-android-armv7-v1.4.0.apk (file is unsigned!)

The game requires at least OpenGL 1.1 or 2.0 (depends on executable).
The executable file is dynamically linked to SDL 2.30.1.
