updating installation documentation #1286
Comments
we just had a couple of folks getting stuck installing on c9 - they did have access to https://github.com/AgileVentures/WebsiteOne/blob/develop/docs/c9/install_notes.md but I think they were partly getting stuck because it was difficult to see the output of the error messages In the ideal world we'd have ready to go c9 boxes for people to work on ... there is a templating framework for c9 ... |
looks like we could make a copy of https://github.com/c9/templates/blob/master/ws-ruby/Dockerfile ... |
there are also plugins - not sure about those: https://cloud9-sdk.readme.io/docs/create-a-package I think they are for modifying the IDE rather than pre-installing stuff maybe ... |
have submitted an exploratory PR for a c9 template c9/templates#83 |
Our installation documentation seems to go out of date rather quickly. It is easy to roll a new c9 instance for testing - not clear how one can do that for OSX. Docker promising for doing that for Ubuntu. Would be great to clear up our scripts, and possibly even have acceptance tests for the install process.
Even with the best docs folks do seem to get stuck installing on c9 - would be great if there was some template we could offer them
