Embryology refers to the process by which the information in a genome produces the phenotype of a living creature, or of a biomorph.
In the context of Watchmaker, an embryology reads a biomorph genome and produces a phenotype. This phenotype is an device-independent data structure, which still must be rendered for presentation in the real world, such as a graphic representation on a computer screen. The process of rendering a phenotype in this way is covered in the article on PhenotypeRenderer.
An Embryology may be guided by a set of embryology preferences. A standard mechanism for managing embryolgy preferences is provided by WatchmakerSuite.
