Will the rewrite make apexctl compatible with new keyboards in the series like the Apex Pro? I'd be interested in getting one if I knew I could use it on Linux (specifically, Fedora 30).

In principle, you can still use the keyboards as regular keyboards without any software. (after all, I doubt SteelSeries Engine will run in BIOS)
I'm not familiar with the new keyboards, but from a glance at the Apex Pro it seems you can control its settings using its built-in screen. I don't know whether they are accessible or complete without the accompanying software.
I also have doubts about whether the commands currently implemented in ApexCtl are recognized by the new keyboards, or if they even make sense. (old Apex keyboards have global or per-region settings, the Apex Pro seems to have per-key settings)
That's all I have at the moment. Checking and possibly adding these features to ApexCtl will require either getting a new Apex first or reverse-engineering SteelSeries Engine. (or possibly finding a specification for the features if one exists?)
