Freelancer: HD Edition installation instructions

C.S. Melis edited this page Apr 24, 2024 · 12 revisions

This tutorial page will show you how to install Freelancer: HD Edition. The regular installation is done via a dedicated installer (recommended). We also do offer the option of performing a simple installation (not recommended).

Installation via the dedicated installer

  1. Download the latest FreelancerHDSetup.exe from Mod DB or Releases
  2. Open the setup file and read the instructions on-screen carefully

Simple installation (not recommended)

N.B. We only recommend using this option if the installer isn't working properly for you. By performing a simple installation, the mod will work, but you'll miss out on a ton of custom options and features that drastically improve the gameplay experience.

  1. Ensure you have a clean Freelancer installation on your PC
  2. Download the mod zip from any of the following hosts:
    1. https://archive.org/download/freelancer-hd-edition-0.6/freelancer-hd-edition-0.6.7z
    2. https://github.com/BC46/freelancer-hd-edition/archive/refs/tags/0.6.zip
      1. NOTE: Downloading from the GitHub host will sometimes result in an incomplete download! Use the archive.org host for guaranteed correct downloads.
      2. Also, DO NOT download the mod zip from GitHub's "Download ZIP" feature under the green "Code" button (on the mod's homepage). This may also result in an incomplete download.
  3. Open the zip and extract all of the content inside the freelancer-hd-edition-0.6 folder to your Freelancer installation directory
    1. Make sure you allow all files to be overwritten
  4. Install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable X86 package from this site: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist
