No level up after Current Worth exceeds Next Level Requirement

Players who started a vanilla playthrough on Freelancer 1.0 and continue with the HD Edition are likely to run into an issue where they can't advance to the next level. This is caused by an internal mission number change in the official Freelancer 1.1 patch, which is included in HDE.

Tool

A tool called FL Save Convert has been created that can automatically fix any save file that suffers from this issue. Simply select your latest save file using this tool and let it fix your save. Download the latest version of FL Save Convert here: https://github.com/dmutlu/fl_convert/releases.

After the save file has been fixed, load your save file in-game. You might need to buy and/or sell one commodity in order for the game to catch up on the save file update. After that you should instantly level up and you'll be able to progress further during the story mode, as usual.

Manual fixes

Besides FL Save Convert, there are two other solutions that require you to perform a few manual steps:

  1. Fix your own save file manually.
  2. Restart your playthrough with "New Game" on HD Edition or the 1.1 patch.

For option 1, follow the instructions from this post to resolve the issue: https://the-starport.com/forums/topic/2263/freelancer-mission-glitch/7?_=1702658949877&lang=en-GB. NOTE: Since Freelancer: HD Edition v0.6, your save games are not encoded by default. Therefore, you can edit your own save files right away without having to decode them. If for some reason your save files are still encoded, you need to decode them manually with FlCodec, which you can download here.
