Can it be used in languages other than English? #2498

Hello there 👋 Please respond as soon as possible if a Pi-Apps maintainer requests more information from you. Stale issues will be closed after a lengthy period of time with no response. |
Right now Pi-Apps does not support multiple languages. The code would need to be changed to allow multiple translations for app descriptions, button labels, and other interface elements. At that point, we may direct users to your Spanish fork of Pi-Apps, or I could try to implement language switching within the Pi-Apps codebase. |
Hi: But I think the best way to make your project known is to make it multilingual, that would help a lot so that more volunteers could translate it into their languages. Best regards |
We already have quite diverse demographics . Based only on our website search results only ~18% of clicks are from the USA. The rest are from other countries (in order: UK, Germany, India, France, Canada, Brazil, Spain, Russia. etc)
We have enough trouble as is getting consistent volunteers to maintain and contribute to the project. It would be even more difficult to maintain a group of people dedicated to translating the 1000s of lines of text that make up pi-apps (documentation, website, app descriptions, etc). Additionally, if we did manage to do the translations at one point in time, then users would likely expect any support to be handled in that language as well. Speaking for myself, the only language I am capable of providing support in is English. |
Ranked by wordcount, most of the translation will be in app I think that for this size of project, it makes the most sense for there to be a Spanish expert to maintain their own fork and handle the Spanish translations and user support. @Manuel-Senpai, you could be that person, if you are willing to make the commitment. |
@Botspot Maybe I missed something but where did @Manuel-Senpai ever say they wanted the translations to be in spanish? Their GitHub username certainly doesn't suggest Hispanic origins if that was what you were going off of. |
I just checked the user's commits to another repo. See Divested-Mobile/Hypatia@stable...Manuel-Senpai:Hypatia:stable |
Hi: I understand your point of view and that you have other priorities, maybe later you will find a way to offer multiple languages, at least in the user interface, since many of the programs will have their own translations. |
Yes, in Github I help in 2 small projects to translate to Spanish, the others I do them from Transifex or Weblate. |
I know this is closed, and i hate to reply on it, but i started something for this, once i get it working i'll show a preview. |
It's fine, we can keep the issue open as long as somebody is working on it. I only closed it because @Manuel-Senpai seemed uninterested. |
Cool ideas?
Hello:
Can it be used in languages other than English, can you contribute to its translation?
Best regards
