It would be great to be able to select multiple maps / datasets by using SHIFT + Click. When using SHIFT + Click all maps / datasets between the last selected map / dataset and the map / dataset where user has clicked, should get selected, including the maps / datasets in the extremes.

This is a very common UX pattern. Some examples:
