Describe the solution you'd like

A fulll implementation would need the NPC to "know" how to drive. But one way I see this could be implemented is when you have given the order, do as if vehicle 1 (PC) and vehicle 2 (NPC) were linked with an invisible 10-15 long towing cable.

...and then you get grappled from your vehicle by a grabber. What should NPC do in that case?
...or you drive around an obstacle but NPC isn't so lucky because of how towing work.

Tell him to revert to his normal behavior with the C menu?

Try again (like when you tow alone :) ...)

Almost a duplicate of 56662 but this, specifically, is for an order to get an NPC to follow you in their car, which should also be doable now and is a bit separate from scripted abilities to get them to drive.
