Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

NPCs can get logs from felling trees and bringing them back but can't make wood planks from logs.

Solution you would like.

Currently your character much do all the log > planks manually and it would be nice if the NPCs can craft them like they do other crafting recipes (such as wooden panels)

Describe alternatives you have considered.

It's possible that this could be added to like a lumbermill style addition or something, but as it stands there's no other option than you doing it yourself, which is massively time consuming when I got other guys just standing around.

I think they can, but you have to turn logs to wooden beams.

... Or if said logs are in your camp zone, and have an npc following you u order him to cut logs.

I turned some into wooden beams, but it doesn't count as planks or give an option to make planks from beams. When he's following me there IS an option to cut logs into planks, but the process finishes immediately even though I have many logs to cut. (with no option to tell him how many to cut)

I also assigned the npc a job of high priority to 'chop logs' but he just doesn't.

If there is an option to get him to do it, it's confusing to figure out.

The logs must be in a "Loot: Wood" zone in order for the NPC to chop them into planks. I think the needed tools (axe or wood saw) also need to be in that zone, or in a nearby "Loot: Tools" zone, for the NPC to find them.

I agree that it is confusing to figure out, and the NPC messages are not clear about what is missing.

Edit When you press O, and you already have a "Loot: Wood" zone defined, you will see a "Chop planks" option that gives more info:

Agree that the "chop logs" job has poor feedback. The name is also pretty ambiguous - I always have a hard time remembering which menu option means "chop tree stumps into logs" and which one means "chop logs into planks."

Also, the yield (planks per log) is dependent on fabrication skill - would be good to preserve that on a crafting recipe, and ideally provide an estimated yield when selecting an NPC to convert the logs to plank.

wow ok. I totally missed the 'loot: wood' zoning being necessary for this. I tested it with telling them to do it AND as a job priority and it works both ways. I guess then all we need is a tad bit more clarification since the function is already there. Thanks guys! :-)
