Describe the bug

An large worm entered my car. Now, it is impossible to kill.

  • hitting it only shows the animation of the hitting, but no HP change
  • Shooting it is also just kind of ignored by the game

Steps to reproduce

Allow a large worm to enter your car, try to kill it afterwards, fail.

Expected behavior

Being able to kill the damn worm

This only happens with burrowing enemies like large worms, fungal fighters and dermatik larvae. I was able to shoot them though.

While you can't damage the monster, the monster is also unable to damage you, in my experience.
This is most likely the same as #63959 (as well as older reports now buried by the stale-bot).

So basically if I'm reading this correctly we have schrodinger's digging monster here. The main thing should be that the monster and the player probably shouldn't be able to see each other at this point?

I think the issue actually is that (some kinds of?) monsters can teleport into vehicles. Once there these monsters (or a subset of them?) then behave weirdly, namely that they can neither be hit nor hit the player.

That is:

  • Monsters shouldn't teleport into vehicles. At a guess, the monsters should be placed under the vehicle in a burrowing/diving state, where any potential attack from them should hit the vehicle, but they themselves should not be hit by the vehicle unless attacking (at which point they would presumably have to give up their protection to be able to attack).
  • If a burrowing or diving monster somehow legally managed to get into a vehicle, it shouldn't be possible for it to hide underground/submerged (which includes the state it finds itself in immediately after entering).
