I know this isn't built to support Linux but hopefully this question gets around that in theory.
So using Wine to load up the program I tried to add a new preset since I use Pyanodons+AL. I can't navigate to the install folder as it's through steam and in a hidden folder that doesn't show up in the file browser. I did manage to put the path in manually but it's not recognising the folder as a Factorio installation - I'm assuming due to permissions or some such.
So, to get around this - can I generate a preset file on another machine (windows) and copy that file to another installation of Foreman? Can you foresee any problems with doing this (other than the possible security/reliability issue of downloading untrusted preset files from strangers)?
Many thanks in advance :)

You run the program from under Wine, so you must have the Win version of the game installed.
Try to download the full version for Windows from here: https://factorio.com/download
