Overview
Describe the purpose
To take decentralization further, we are providing an independent Ocean API that can be used by anyone in the Light Wallet or by other community projects.
The infrastructure is intended to be a fallback for the official Ocean API and can be used by DeFiChain users in case of failure.
Technical Details:
At the moment we operate Servers in different Providers and Datacenters in Europe: Paris (France), Vienna (Austria), Frankfurt, Berlin, Duesseldorf and Nuernberg (Germany)
The servers can be accessed via a unique URL (https://ocean.mydefichain.com), behind that a load balancer takes over the distribution of the requests.
The Load Balancer operate as a Master and Backup Load Balancer in active/passive mode with a Highly Available IP address (a special highly available address, which is routed to the master Load Balancer instance) Should the master instances experience a failure, this address is automatically rerouted to the backup one.
Master and backup are running on different hardware clusters to ensure that they don't share physical resources and minimize the risk of a simultaneous failure.
How will the fund be spent?
The funds are for the development and setup of the environment to date and for the cost of the hardware and corresponding software licenses until onchain government is implemented in the next quarter and we switch to recurring funding (about 2,000$ per month)
In Detail costs till now and the next 3 months (3rd quarter):
2,500 DFI for the Cloud Infrastructure (2,500 $)
1,500 DFI for external Developers and Consulting (just once for initial setup)
4,000 DFI to compensate our own work
How does this CFP benefit the DeFiChain community?
The backend of the lightwallet is a single point of failure today and could, in extreme cases, lead to technically unsophisticated users no longer having access to their funds via the Lightwallet in the event of a failure of the official Ocean API or a shutdown for regulatory reasons.
For this reason, we want to offer a solution that is available, fully independent from the official AWS hosted ocean and can be used as a fallback in case of failure to increase overall uptime of ocean and the trust in our whole DeFichain.
