Greetings, in the past I have been thinking of crafting similar project on my own and I gave a lot of thoughts about it. With this project going on, here are some of my ideas that can upgrade it.
Bad development board choice
Main reason for this is outdoor application and need for constant power supply. There are a lot of challenges here but major ones would be:
proximity to power outlet;
microusb cable length.
These issues restrict availability of good places for product to be placed at. (Very little instructions about this important topic has been written in the project)
I assume that main power hungry component here is WiFi module. If so, than ESP32 board with BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) would be great solution. With tiny cost increase client could be a solar powered BLE outside module, and indoor constant powered server module that would do allthingstalk data upload. This setup can be further upgraded to read indoor values as well etc.
Sensors
While current sensor choice is not bad, technology is progressing and with that in mind project should be modular to accept different sensor types. Some interesting choices could be sensors like SDS011, HPMA115S0-XXX, or very cheap ZPH02.
Enclosure
While 3D printed solution is nice touch, it should not be main solution. Availability to 3D printer services can be problematic for a lot of users, especially for those living in small towns or rural areas. Instead, usage of some very available weatherproof box such as outdoor electro distribution box with slight modifications should be encouraged as the main solution.
Need for soldering
This is main reason for many not to be involved in this project. Trend where people are asking to buy finished product can be easily observed at every instance where there is open discussion about the project. Solution is to make PCB mainboard that would include connection pins for main module and temperature sensor, as well as molex connector for main sensor. With such board, an dropship provider can be easily established so anyone can assemble their device.
I know for Klimerko Pro solution, but instead of lowering cost, that project is doing opposite to almost all issues I have been talking here
** There are some more ideas and observations, but for now these are enough to be addressed
