I've just looked at search engine results for 'coworking Liverpool' and I've found that DoES is the top result - great!

However, the top result is the blog post category 'co-working' rather than leading to a page detailing what co-working is, how it works in DoES, benefits of co-working, etc. and then a link to the form to book.

Given that we're looking to attract more co-workers, think we may want to create such a page and come up with some search friendly content to fill it with.

There's a side bar that says "book a desk"- maybe change that to "book a coworking desk"

If people are searching "what is coworking", then why are they appending liverpool?

It seems anyone looking for "coworking liverpool" is getting everything they need but "there's a usability problem", we could say.

I guess I am perhaps missing your point(s).

Sorry, I probably wasn't as clear as I should have been. My point was just that if somebody searches 'co-working liverpool' then they're probably looking for details of DoES' co-working services and not our blog posts about co-working.

I'm just putting myself in the shoes of somebody who has never visited DoES and doesn't know what to expect. At the moment, there's nothing on the Book a Desk page that explains how the co-working works for those new to it.

I wasn't suggesting a full guide to co-working by any means... more like one paragraph as part of a page about the DoES co-working setup.

Hope that makes more sense!

530 issues on and we're still working out what to do ;-) #19 is related and probably overrides this issue.

(FWIW the booking sidebar doesn't show on mobile)

Yep - lets call it an experience issue.

I'd say

  • make the sidebar title "book coworking desk(s)
  • Insert text under the title that reads "Details"
  • Forward "Details" to the existing Book a Desk page
  • Add some details on that page, i.e. free coffee, wifi, power, kitchen use, book a desk for a month and save ~£100+

Or something like that - probably need to tag in #19 too

What do people starting up a startup or going into self-employment for the first time think of? The ones who haven't heard of "co-working" necessarily. Maybe "startup space liverpool", "cheap co-working liverpool", "cheap space liverpool" something like that?

Thinking about it a bit more... And this might not be the right place to put this but I'm here now and can't think of anywhere better so...

Given the recent blog posts about DoES funding I'm understanding that a large proportion comes from monthly desks.

So then I wonder who wants monthly desks?

And how do we segment the potential clients who might want desks and might be searching for desk space in Liverpool?

One way would seem to be age I guess.

So there's people of "our generation" (how that scares me. I'm turning into my grandad) who have possibly been doing what we respectively do for quite some time.

I guess "people like us" are indeed looking for "co-location" facilities. Maybe they are looking for "startup space". Plus of course the benefits of workshops, communities and so forth.

Then there's the younger generation. The "millennials" who I was surprised to learn cover quite a range of ages e.g. 20-36 depending on the definition you read.

Now those people are no doubt doing all manner of interesting and vibrant things with their ideas and their new businesses. And it's those people who can probably bring some new blood, new thinking, and new money into DoES. And are the right age to do it. But I don't see many of them with desks here.

So I ask myself, do we understand what millennials want? Do we understand where millennials get their information and are they hearing about DoES? If not how do we facilitate that? If so and they don't like the message then what's wrong about the message?

So... again... what do they want from a place like DoES? (I suspect what DoeS does, but they don't know)

Then how do we reach out to them to get them here to enthuse them about being here? What language do we use to do this?

Just some thoughts.

You do know we've got an Instagram account, right? And most of the meetups that happen in DoES are already on meetup...

Can we avoid setting up yet another "forum" where the community can be split please, and maybe do that as part of a /considered/ move, rather than an "ooh, we can set this up". IoT Liverpool had a message board for a while, but it saw little use and I eventually turned it off and point people at the DoES Google Group in the welcome email.

No fear of that, @amcewen - I can barely keep up with the social media that I have to be a part of.

The thinking @ajlennon and I had was that, as there are already groups set up on there that cater to demographics we are currently under-represented in, it might not be the worst idea to reach out to group leaders/organisers and tell them about us. If they're looking for space to hold meet ups, point out that we have space that, for the right type of event, is available free. Essentially use it as a marketing tool to reach people that we might otherwise struggle to.

Understanding the need not to proliferate channels that people don't use....

What about pushing LinkedIn a bit more? This channel in particular seems like it might bear fruit.

I see there's a DoES Liverpool company here

Presumably that can post? Maybe it can join groups too? Or maybe a DoES group could be created? (I know... only if it's worth doing and somebody maintains it)

Could #weeknotes posts be copied across as DoES posts or something?

Hook the company/group in into Liverpool co-location and startup communities/groups on LinkedIn?

Same thinking with Instagram, Snapchat even Facebook or whatever: Can/Should certain posts on Twitter be copied across automatically to other social media platforms as a a starting point to raise awareness?

Could use a service like Zapier to push from one service to another. For example, you can have Zapier pull any tweets and repost them to Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Really easy to set up and free.
