Upgraded from 0.8.1.1942 to 09.0.3067 and the 3D Preview is no longer working. Works fine in 0.8.1.1942.

Downloaded 0.9.1.3370 and still doesn't show the 3D preview. The watch 3D doesn't work either.

What graphics card do you have? Can you please run Dxdiag and capture the output in a file and send to us?

I'm running a AMD FirePro M4150 graphics card in my laptop. Attached is the output file.

@drussell-sundt - sounds like you may have an integrated GPU in your laptop(in addition to the FirePro), try finding the graphics settings for your card and forcing high performance mode for Dynamo

Had this problem once I tried 0.9.0 & 0.9.1 with my AMD Radeon 6490M card
(switchable graphics).

It only got to show geometry in the background 3D preview once I changed
graphics settings in the BIOS setup from 'DYNAMIC' to 'FIXED' - however
the display was crappy, even with view quality set to high - completely no
Anti-Aliasing.

So I just gave up as there are no updates for my Card - and it is quite
unstable in that state.

I am currently using 0.8.1 and I plan on getting a new machine soon -
hopefully Nvidia card.

With new version of dynamo:
deactivate background preview of revit.

The link that RhymONe posted solved the problem for me when running Dynamo from Revit. However when running Dynamo from the desktop I still can't get the 3D preview to show. At least I have a workflow I can use now.

Hi.
I figure out a very important things and I want to say to anyone that don't work their background 3d preview dynamo.
only only open dynamo in revit, no dynamo that is in desktop. open revit and go to "manage" tab (in 2017 ver) maybe "add in" tab in lower ver and open dynamo.
Today I decide to learn dynamo and I had this problem in the first step but figure out it.
I hope that it was helpful.

After several months of fighting with this on a Dell Precision 3510 with Switchable Graphics (Intel integrated and AMD GPU), I finally narrowed down our issue.

The solution, for us, was actually the OPPOSITE to what a lot of people are suggesting.... We had to point Dynamo to use the Integrated Intel card, because it was the AMD card that was not displaying correctly!

Many people have been suggesting to assign Dynamo (program is located at C:\Program Files\Dynamo\Dynamo Revit\x.x\DynamoSandbox.exe) to "High Performance/Maximize Performance" in your GPU settings, but actually what we needed to do was select "Power Save/Low Performance", which then points the program to the integrated card instead. You can access these settings by right clicking on the desktop and selecting "AMD graphics settings" or "nVidia Control Panel" (may vary by model) and navigating to the application settings. You may need to add DynamoSandbox.exe if it's not already there.

If anyone else has tried to point Dynamo to their nVidia/AMD card without avail, try doing the opposite. Worked for me.

Also worth noting: this only works when you open DynamoSandbox.exe, not through Revit. Obviously we want Revit to use the higher end GPU, so if you open Dynamo through Revit it thinks you still want to use the same GPU you've assigned to Revit. But, if you open Dynamo via the shortcut in C:\Program Files\Dynamo\Dynamo Revit\x.x\DynamoSandbox.exe then it works. If you are fixing this issue for a client, make sure they are aware of this.

@jnealb You are most welcome, please note I've edited my post to include some more specific details that are pretty important to note.

Thanks

This is really helpful for me. I was headache before I saw this post. Thank you so much for your sharing and this is really great help!

I changed my ADM Radeon Settings (Dynamo set the High Performance)

I used this following patch then run as administrator for DynamoSandbox.exe file. Then I solve this problem.

C:\Program Files\Dynamo\Dynamo Revit
