I am able to use EMM386 with MS-DOS 7.1 without any problems, with HIMEM.SYS or HIMEMX.EXE. But when I try to use it with FreeDOS I get an error at startup:
EMM386 not installed - incorrect machine type
Press any key when ready...
When I press a key, I get a list of invalid opcodes.
I am using FreeDOS 1.3, and DEVICE=HIMEMX.EXE and DEVICE=EMM386.EXE are the only things in my CONFIG.SYS, with an empty AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
