Scores or subscores all have to exhibit the same metric over the whole test, i.e. they have to span the same numeric range. Commonly they are integers with a fixed minimum and maximum value.

The implied dimension of 'score' is competence within the scope of the test area. Thus the higher the score, the higher the implied competence. Criteria for the assessment of scores can be absolute, such as true/false (numerically expressed as 1 / 0), they can be explicit, or they can be implicit determined by expert raters.
