I am new to this area. For my school project, I am looking for something that will help me annotate text and then work with the quantitative data. I would like to be able to search up text according to certain attributes in the annotation, like the length of the marked texts, or values in an attribute. Is yor tool or any other helpful for that? Or could you point me to the right direction?

I was asking this question about the MCA2NBT tool but I get the impression that you are not talking about this tool at all, or even speaking about Minecraft.
If I'm wrong and you are talking about annotating text on signs or other items, this is really beyond what this tool was intended for, but you could have a look at my other Minecraft Region Scanner tool for this functionality.
If however you are talking about generic text processing, you could either look at the existing Unix tool set (or my PNU project for some initiation about doing that kind of programming) or at Python programming, which seems perfect for the kind of tasks you suggest. I advise you to have a look at the Automate the boring tasks with Python book for some examples.

Hey! I found MCA2NBT very useful, but i'd wonderful if you could add some way to turn NBT tags back to MCA so people can edit region files

Hello Julian.
I think it would be quite easy to do a NBT2MCA utility, but I'm quite busy at the moment. Maybe in a few months?
In the meantime, maybe you could check my Minecraft Region Scanner tool. Well it's only for MC 1.7.10 but it's way more powerful.
Editing MCA files really needs a tool like this, if you don't want to screw your region files!
