I installed and set in a cloud's VPS a v8ssandra node :

In a file janusgraph-env.txt I defined the configuration's environment variables :

janusgraph.storage.backend=cql
janusgraph.storage.hostname=127.0.0.1
janusgraph.cluster.max-partitions=32

And run the janusgraph docker container passing the environment variables :

How to make it work?

As you have already put in the title: Error connecting to Node(endPoint=/127.0.0.1:9042, JanusGraph tries to connect to 127.0.0.1:9042. Your docker ps output however doesn't show that any container has that port mapped to localhost. I instead see this mapping 0.0.0.0:30942->30942/tcp which could be used intead of 9042 so I would try that port.

Even better would be if you wouldn't use localhost, but instead a DNS name that is available in Docker and which directly returns the IP address of the Cassandra containers.

I removed the previous containers and I 've run new ones:

As far as I understand, the interested port of this single node is 30080

So I tried to put in the environment variables file this port:

janusgraph-env.txt :

janusgraph.storage.backend=cql
janusgraph.storage.hostname=localhost:30080
janusgraph.cluster.max-partitions=32

With localhost as hostname, it doesn't work:

Error connecting to Node(endPoint=localhost/127.0.0.1:30080

I tried with janusgraph-default as hostname and it doesn't work either:

Ignoring invalid contact point janusgraph-default:30080 (unknown host janusgraph-default)

In /etc/resolv.conf I've found :

nameserver 127.0.0.53
options edns0 trust-ad
search invalid

So I tried with 127.0.0.53 as hostname:

janusgraph.storage.backend=cql
janusgraph.storage.hostname=127.0.0.53:30080
janusgraph.cluster.max-partitions=32

but, again, it doesn't work: Error connecting to Node(endPoint=/127.0.0.53:30080

That won't work because this config option really only expects a hostname, not a combination of hostname and port.
You can use janusgraph.storage.port to specify the port.

Not sure why you think that 127.0.0.53 is the hostname for your Cassandra container. This is simply the IP address for DNS which is also why you've found it as the nameserver in your resolv.conf.

The name of the Cassandra container should work for example.

In general, my advise is that you don't start directly with Kubernetes if you're new to JanusGraph, Cassandra, AND Docker networking in general. Kubernetes brings even more complexity to this setup.
I would just try to get up a simple JanusGraph container first, without anything else, so no Cassandra and no Kubernetes. Just use the default config and try to connect to JanusGraph Server from outside the container. When you have that running, than you can as a next step start a Cassandra container and try to configure JanusGraph to use that as its backend. The next step can be to add Solr or to move the two containers into Kubernetes.
But I would really only make the setup more complex when you have the simpler version running and a good understanding of it.

Yes. I totally agree. I wipe everything out, start from scratch again.
