May I add "mapt tools for the artillery interface" to the list?

Align Map tools

I don't like this. The player should allign it himself.

It only lets you rotate the map tool to north or rotate it to match compass direction. No real skill needed for this (it's the same thing BIS does for the compass automatically). I could remove the compass thing if you want though.

@MarcBook, that's nice to hear! The tablet would be the ideal item needed for "modern" map features to be available, as those bottom three from the list. Please commit soon and often, so we can integrate all these map things as best as posible.

This happend yesterday. Map tools are very small on the artillery interface and not moveable.

@Raspu86, I saw that same thing only once (dedicated server with tons on addons) and couldn't ever reproduce it. Could you give me any more information? V0.93?

May I add "mapt tools for the artillery interface" to the list?

Yes and no. IMHO using the analog map tools there doesn't make a lot of sense. The arty computer is a computer, so distances and angles should be measured using the computer interface; that is the kind of thing I meant with "Digital map tools". Bottom line, I plan to introduce some way of precise measuring tools for arty computer and tablets, but it will probably look nothing like the map tools.

v0.93 map was Celle 2 with a3mp map pack on a dedicated server.

Yes I agree, analog map tools are only one way of doing things, but they are still a usefull tool to do a fire segment (Feuerschlag) along a target axis (Zielachse). In the end, you are right there, everything should be done trough an artillery computer interface.
There are quite some possbilities where an artillery computer needs to account for, tough. Some examples that come to mind:

  • Simple target at grid coordinates + dimension
  • Target at grid coordinates + dimension + target axis (Zielachse)
  • posiition forward artillery observer + distance to target + Heading in angular mil to target (Sehsteifen) + possiblity to correct shots to the left/right and up/down relative to the positon of the spotter.

I will post a more elaborate suggestion for artillery and especially artillery computers some day. I got something on my mind there.

Ok, this can be closed for V0.94. Moved the remaining proposed improvements to a separate issue #1227.
