What is "Custom Delay"

Custom delay is how early the name-change requests start sending in milliseconds. For example: your target username became available at 13:55:10 and you set a 1000 delay, your requests would send at 13:55:09. It may look like they are sending late but that's because what you see is receiving requests and not sending requests. The sending of requests is not printed because it causes the sniper to be much slower.

Why would you want the sniper to snipe before the name drops?

You would use a delay because there is lag from other snipers attempting to snipe the same name as you. to "bypass" their lag you can attempt the snipe earlier, which is the point of delay.

What delay do I use

On 09/26/2020 the Mojang API (what the sniper uses to change the name) changed and reduced the number of requests per account to ~10. Since then the requests per account have been reduced even more to ~3. This means there is even less lag than before. There is not one delay you should use for all names and there is no way to perfectly predict a delay for any given name. A good starting point right now is a delay of 400. Getting a good delay requires a lot of patience and learning. just joking, this is the perfect delay.
