Task:

In the Interactive Music Systems module, there were 2 remote participants from NTNU and 5 local participants at UiO. This course required 2 different angles of the camera display. The first one was the general view of the class at UiO. The second one was the close-up view to display hardware that the teacher handled and taught in class. In this case, the hardware was a Bela board.

User requirements

  • The teacher needed a controller in order to change the camera view from his Macbook.
  • The participants at UiO needed seats.
  • The remote participants needed a Zoom link in order to join the class.

Technologies

The ATEM mini served as a controller that allows the teacher to switch between 2 camera views. On the ATEM mini, it connected with two cameras. In addition, the ATEM mini is connected to Blackmagic. The Blackmagic served as an adaptor that connects the HDMI matrix and Main Zoom box in the UiO Portal.

  • Note: Because of problems with the Midas mixer, the Trondheim side of this course was only able to participate via the stand-alone Logitech Zoom setup. This unfortunately meant that, while Trondheim was able to have two switchable camera views (one traditional view of the students and one close-up camera for viewing the students' hands), the set-up for both audio in and out was limited to the Logitech base unit. Final performance audio was recorded via a typical Focusrite Scarlett2i2 interface into a course participant's laptop.
