Maybe read the fine prints? They are there for a reason.

The cope of the soydevs in this repository is awesome. |
Before depending on a free project without any warranty whatsoever, make sure to check if it actually works. You didn't pay for warranty, so don't act like the world owes you anything.
Don't rely on others to solve your problems for your profit, without pay. You decided to use this, nobody twisted your arm. Now you are liable for what you introduced in your pipeline. Nobody but you are at fault for your failures at your company.
The world doesn't owe you anything. You chose to use a free project without any warranty whatsoever. Don't act like you bought a commercially supported product with a support team working for you. If you fail to perform even the most basic smoke test of your composition then you obviously have lacking testing and would deploy honest bugs just like this.
Obviously it's not good PR to introduce bugs knowingly, and obviously this damages the brand of the developer. |
The fact that 2 days later after getting totally ratioed the account gets deleted... |
We do owe each other honesty. There is a big ethical difference between offering no warranty and intentional sabotage. Your argument is nothing but victim blaming. The fact that a victim did not take precautions may excuse accidental or incidental issues; it does not, in any way, justify sabotage. |
Believing you're a victim for having to sniff the free fruit of someone else's labour, before making your free pie out of the good parts, is probably the most pathetic, selfish and spoiled thing I've heard in my entire life. A victim is someone who, for instance, got repeatedly rectally molested by their drunk parents as a child. You just need to lay off the Marxism and start taking responsibility of your own actions in life. |
It is absolutely hilarious to me that you talk about responsibility while defending someone who abused the trust of a community of people who have been sharing and collaborating and often making money off each others work for decades now. |
Hmm, isn't that what Microsoft does daily? |
Not defending anyone. I think the dude took a big dump on his brand by doing this. But that doesn't make your demands or shame of him any more valid. I know exactly what it is like to work 22 hours a day at a net loss, here on GitHub. People browsing GitHub are, to a shockingly huge degree, psychopathic egoistic money grabbing swines who pray on the hopes and dreams of the ones actually putting the working hours in to create something. And whenever that someone makes a mistake or loses his shit, all of internet goes completely barbaric. So it all comes back to square 1; maybe consider paying for work you rely on rather than just assume it's going to continue flawlessly for years, for free. It makes me seriously mad to hear people make demands on things they have paid 0$ for. |
Do not Feed the TROLL(EDITED)@alexhultman is Trolling you either on purpose or without being conscious of that... His point of argument might be valid if taken into a vacuum... but obviously, people are working with each other in good faith... until a bad actor comes... The absence of warranty or liabilities is not an excuse for sabotage or whatever... Blaming the victims is never the best way of expressing your opinions... Not meaning that being a victim of the sabotage makes you a « victim »... if you can learn from the situation... @alexhultman comments contains truths that we must keep in mind but the way he is reversing the blame from the saboteur to the victim of such sabotage is astonishing and plain wrong in my opinion... If I am offering something for free I think that people relying on what I do can have assumptions... Money is not everything and it is not true that because it cost 0$ you can not express any disappointment or being shocked or being surprised... People who offer free work to the community get back free software from the community... it is a way to pay back to the community... If you would be paid by someone who decided to sabotage your earnings you could be shocked or surprised by the situation... When I offer something free to the community I am not thinking they are « psychopathic egoistic money-grabbing swines » I do it for free and give it to anyone who wants it (it is why I do MIT instead of Paypal or Swipe or such)... I give and then I do not judge people and then I take back without thinking... if it was Fedora or VisualStudio Code or Google Chrome instead of one individual... would it not be different... since they are probably not doing it « [whithin] 22 hours [of work] a day at a net loss » ??? Some of your points are valid and true but the way you think of all that is bad and you should never offer your work for free and always ask to be paid for anything you do if you think like that... Money is not the only way to measure benefits and losses... or if it was every micro-task we do would be measured and every little thing we get should be accounted for so that you could see that you probably are not losing as much as you think... Also, good sleep is the key sleeping only one or two hours a day is unhealthy especially if you are working 22 hours without being paid... |
Nobody in their right mind would ever blame a victim. The problem here is that you very clearly interpret the freeloaders who make money on the author's work as victims, while I interpret the sole author as victim. He obviously had a mental breakdown and now all of internet is taking a crap on his name. I definitely, in all seriousness, side with the author in this. Again, people who use others work without paying have no say in this world. |
This is one type of opinion and I will not argue with you but that is the part of all what you said I didn't agree with... The open-source culture would obviously be inexistent with that mindset and would not have been damaged... so your arguments are not disproving that they « are damaging the open-source culture » |
so everyone is arguing about something that isn't worth arguing about on a thread that was authored by a deleted user? i'm unsubscribing from this thread. |
Most "real" open source is backed by huge companies who have paid developers. Everything is driven by money in this world and that is exactly how it should be. |
You talk exactly like those Republicans who think that Denmark and Venezuela are socialist countries... But I guess that with an if it's free it's a bad mentality you are against free education, free health care or free roads... I think you are angry at something unrelated to the Opensource Comunity... I think that the fact that it cost nothing and the fact that developers are paid or not is 2 different things... And it appears that you say that if it is free don't count on quality... and then you say if the developers are paid then it's normal you have quality... so it is not because it is free??? it's because developers are not paid... again similarly to those Republicans (I am Canadian and talking about US American Republican Politicians here)... you are trying to have it both ways... but I said we should not feed the trolls and I am still arguing with you on stuff that we will never be able to agree on so I will need to make that my last message (hopefully) and you will be lucky enough to have the last word on that... So have a nice day and all that... |
I'm not American but if I was, yes I would vote Republican a million times before Democrat and yes Denmark literally is socialist. That's why I fit in poorly on sites like GitHub. |
I really do think its wrong to characterize people who don't pay money for software as "feeloaders". Free software is a gift to the world. Am I a free loader if I build a house with a hammer that was given to me? Am I a free loader if I sell that house? Modern technological systems are built upon many moving parts from many sources. This is a risk, but its also a strength. Its more than any of us could build on our own. When you release software, you choose the license. The author is no victim because others took his software releases at face value. |
That's not the case here. People take free stuff. Fine. It is given free, no problem with me. But what happens here is, people get free stuff AND complain, bully and shame the author for not being a perfect machine without any flaws. It's the classic saying, don't look a gift horse in the mouth |
Context matters a lot here as well - if you get free stuff from Google or Microsoft or any other huge corporation with deep pockets and a well thought out plan, it's a lot more suitable to demand a certain quality as the company is a huge brand who obviously IS NOT really giving anything for free (companies NEVER do anything for free). That above case is not what is happening here. In this case, a sole individual had a mental breakdown and people mass bully him and demand even more free stuff. That's a seriously sickening behavior by internet bullies. |
That's definitely not what is happening here. The problem here is that people get a hammer and gather in mobs to internet bully the gifter because the hammer was broken. Even though it was literally said in the contract you agreed to, that the hammer might be broken from time to time. Now the people are going back and throwing the broken hammer in his head. That's sickening parasitic behavior. |

Hey guys, I like this library for helping me to prototype a project. Thank you for your free opensource code 😀 Let's make a better world by motivating each other for the good! Opensource is awesome 💪🏼 |
Before announcing a project as open source, think carefully about what you expect from it.
Either don't open source at all or write that thousands of people will be affected if you do.
No one should have to pay for your personal stupidity. In reaction this user should be damned in the software world
