Here you will find the .po files and translations for Menéame.

The .po files (obtained with gettext) can be translated using Poedit or KBabel.
The revision and final version publication procedure works the same way. Note that the same person can't translate and proof-read the text. We do this in order to reduce the number of mistakes in a translation. Ideally, the translation should be read by a native of that language before publishing it.
After a week without progress it is assumed that the translation is stalled and other people can assume the task.
Possible states: in progress | for revision | final
The language file version (which is set only when the translation is finished) has always the same version number as the Meneame code (current version: 1.X). Decimals indicate the number of proof-readings the file has undergone. For example: a final language file for Meneame version 1.X with 53 revisions will be named as 1.53. If the Meneame version changes (to 2.0, for example) and the text chains remain the same, the language file version will automatically become 2.0, which reflects the compatibility with the Meneame version

The .po files (obtained with gettext) can be translated using Poedit or KBabel.
- Take a look at the discussion of the page. If nobody has requested the translation, leave a message to inform everyone you are going to start translating.
- Add the in process state, your username and the date you started translating in the Translation field.
- Once the translation is finished change the state to for revision, write the new date and specify the file version*. Upload the file (from the section Manage Space) and link to it in the File field. You can also link to a page where the file is available if you want to moderate that language translation.

- Make sure the locales you are about to test are correctly configured in your server in /etc/locale.gen (in Debian you can do this by executing dpkg-reconfigure locales). For example, if you are going to test the English file, check there is an alias for en_US.
- To keep it tidy, make a copy of the original meneame.po file which is located in libs/languages folder to the lib/languages/en folder (for English).
- You can translate there. You just have to add the target text to the msgstr line.
- Run: msgfmt -o meneame.mo meneame.po
- Move the meneame.mo file to the libs/languages/en/LC_MESSAGES subfolder.
- Add the following lines to config.php (global configuration) or to the domain_name-local.php (local cofiguration, higher priority than global).

Now you should see the messages in the target language. If not:
- check the server has the proper locales and alias
- check if PHP is compiled with GNU gettext (in Debian, it already is)
- check the alias are in /etc/locale.gen and the meneame.mo file in the LC_MESSAGES de libs/languages/en subfolder
