I have just updated basic-miktex. The installer refused to overwrite the old path, so I was forced to deleted the folder and continued. Now ALL of the executable files CANNOT succeed to run except TeXworks.exe.
For instances mpm.exe and mo_admin.exe.

C:\Users\xxx>mpm --admin
log4cxx: No appender could be found for logger (mpmcli).
log4cxx: Please initialize the log4cxx system properly.

Sorry, but "MiKTeX Package Manager" did not succeed.

You may want to visit the MiKTeX project page, if you need help.

I admit my problem invalid, but why does the installer refuse to overwrite the old path? My problem just resulted from this reason. Can't you do some changes? .

I have had similar problems in the past. To correct the problem, I have had to resort to the following.

  1. Uninstall MiKTeX completely.
  2. Manually remove the C:\Program Files directory. You will probably have to log in as “Administrator” to be able to accomplish that feat.
  3. Clear out any “temp directories.”
  4. Reboot the machine as a regular user and try reinstalling MiKTeX.

This usually works. I have no real idea what the problem is though. I think the permissions on the files or directory get messed up and the installation program cannot handle the situation.
