Short response: we (a group of friends) where look for a organization name (idea: share code and best practises).
We chosed one, and after that I update the name in every place (github, twitter etc) we were not happy with it. Because I was sort of angry (but not really ^^) I replaced github org name by "putain de merdeuuu" (sort of translation: fucking shiiiit). So someone give the idea of "putain de code" (translation: fucking code) and we found that was original and fun and so we decided to keep it.

"Long" answer in french: https://github.com/putaindecode/organisation/issues/1

Note: putaindecode.fr will become putaindecode.io very soon, with content in english too :)

Any reason why .io?

  • We want to avoid .fr to distribute content in English, Spanish, or others languages.
  • .com is more for "commercial" things and atm, this organization doesn't plan to become a commercial business.

Since .io is very common for developer projects (reminder: refer to input/output, even if that not the original purpose of this tld), we decided to choose this one.
