Welcome to OL7, Cohort C! This issue will be used to track your project and progress during the program. Please use this checklist over the next few weeks as you start Open Leadership Training 🎉.

Before Week 1 (Jan 30): Your first mentorship call

• Complete the OLF self-assessment (online, printable). If you're a group, each teammate should complete this assessment individually. This is here to help you set your own personal goals during the program. No need to share your results, but be ready to share your thoughts with your mentor.
• Make sure you know when and how you'll be meeting with your mentor.

Before Week 2 (Feb 6): First Cohort Call (Open by Design)

• Complete Assignment 'Write Your Vision or Mission Statement'. Leave a comment on this issue with your draft vision statement & be ready to share this on the call.
• Watch 'Mozilla & Working Open'.
• Check the Syllabus for notes and connection info for all the cohort calls.

Before Week 3 (Feb 13): Mentorship call

• Look up two other projects and comment on their issues with feedback on their vision statement.
• Complete your Open Canvas (instructions, canvas). Comment on this issue with a link to your canvas.
• Start your Roadmap. Comment on this issue with your draft Roadmap.

Before Week 4 (Feb 20): Cohort Call (Build for Understanding)

• Look up two other projects and comment on their issues with feedback on their open canvas.
• Pick an open license for the work you're doing during the program.
• Use your canvas to start writing a README, or landing page, for your project. Link to your README in a comment on this issue.

Week 5 and more

• Create a repository for your project. New to GitHub? You can fork our templates.
• Add Contributing Guidlines
• Add a Code of Conduct
• Submit your project to Mozilla Pulse, add the tag #mozsprint
• Invite new contributors to into your work!

Vision Statement: I’m working with anyone from the African social entrepreneurship scene to map the social entrepreneurship sector in the continent for enhanced visibility and fostering of crosscountry collaboration and exchange of know-how.
First, I‘m working open because I think social entrepreneurship is important for Africa’s future, and for it to develop, information pertaining to it should be open to all interested parties. Second, I intend for this project to be more than a listing of numbers, I want this project to be a listing of stories, of journeys and of hurdles fought. I think it is essential to have each country listing covered by a native, because there are peculiarities to a country’s culture than outsiders fail to grasp. Africa is a patchwork of cultures and it should be showcased in Sokafrica. This means that I cannot do this alone, and for that I need your help.

Draft roadmap:

Milestone 1:

• Begin pilot March 2019
• Designing a website and domain name setup April 2019
• 5 startup stories documented by June 2019

Thank you for your interest. We are still working out the method for data collection. I want this project to be inclusive so I will strive to make the process as simple as possible, I also added my open canvas if you wanted to take a look.

Thank you for pointing that out to me, it should be fine now!
I confess that my web design skills lack in comparison to my content writing skills, so I will wait to gather more data before deciding that (I want my website to reflect its users so I am planning focus group/meetings to discuss this thoroughly), but I hope to finalize this by the end of April. I would be happy then to discuss it with you!

Not a developer or designer but made a decent career over past couple years consulting and/or engaging with founder (including social entrepreneurs & start up NGOs) across a few different countries in sub-saharan africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa) so might be able to lend some input once you're all set up.

All I can say is alone (I will be learning about web development and web design with the help of my mentor) this project will be a simple information platform, but if I get help we can make it into an interactive platform and create synergies between vaious social businesses accross the continent. Another thing I could do is offer my editing and writing skills (kind of a skill swap) in exchange for their help, but I believe that would be going against the principles of an open project. If you have any insight to offer that would be awesome!

How are you defining social entrepreneurship?

Thank you for your question! It will vary according to countries (mainly existence of social entrepreneurship legal status or not). For example in morocco there is no such law (although one is in the making) but most institutions in the country agree that a social enterprise can be a cooperative, a charity trading type (charities selling goods and services in order to make a profit), or a social business ( a business that aims to resolve a social issue, preferably using innovation while doing so). I will be focusing on social businesses first, and this will apply to all countries without a legal status for social entrepreneurship.
