Is there any way I can use the build-use-sandbox option with nix-shell?

I'd like to get an interactive shell in the same super-clean environment that nix-build is started in when the option is enabled.

Currently nix-shell silently ignores --option build-use-sandbox true, and also silently ignores if build-use-sandbox = true set in /etc/nix/nix.conf.

(For people reading by: build-use-sandbox is the option which, at least for nix-build, starts the nix environment in a chroot so that e.g. all paths from /nix/store that are not used by my .nix file are inaccessible.)
