In short: establish a concept of session for nix shell and have each session an independent history. Or an option to establish a new history for a given nix-shell.

Might be best handled by an outside tool, but it's a great idea.
Not sure I'd always want this behavior personally, and gah re:options.
What'd be really exciting is progress on refining this notion of
"project". Such an abstraction is needed for other features
like persistent shell as gc root.
Practically, history per-project is realizable with a one-liner
in a shellHook or adding an attribute to your expressions.
Direnv might be a good fit for this?
