Motivation for this change
Things done
  • Tested using sandboxing (nix.useSandbox on NixOS, or option sandbox in nix.conf on non-NixOS linux)
  • Built on platform(s)
    • NixOS - doesn't boot
    • macOS
    • other Linux distributions
  • Tested via one or more NixOS test(s) if existing and applicable for the change (look inside nixos/tests)
  • Tested compilation of all pkgs that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review wip"
  • Tested execution of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
  • Determined the impact on package closure size (by running nix path-info -S before and after)
  • Ensured that relevant documentation is up to date
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.
  • Wait until 21.05 release
  • Rebase to staging

The system hangs indefinitely, with systemd.debug-shell boot parameter the debug shell is available even when the system hangs. (Magic SysRq is working in both cases.)
It seems to be that the multi-user.target is not reached, but the logs contain a systemd[1]: Reached target Multi-User System.. After systemctl start multi-user.target the system boots just fine.

  1. boot with systemd.debug-shell
  2. change to tty9

@arianvp I assume you experimented with all the FIDO and TPM stuff. I assume that's useful to have, at least in the non-minimal version of systemd?

systemd 248 would be awesome to have. The new feature systemd-cryptenroll allow to easily unlock LUKS2 volumes.
