NB: in #299049, I'm including this commit + patch openusd for embree 4.

I don't specially have an opinion on either merging this (#298888) first and working on #299049 for embree 4 later, or if we go directly for a PR with the both upgrade of openusd + upgrade of embree + openusd patch for embree.
