We plan to discuss the functional areas proposal, especially part 1, which focus on the implications of:

• Internal representation (one goal is to explain why it is important to have this)
• Security deployment vs shape
• Data modeling

Discussed in-memory representations and the usage/scope of graph vs trees, including:

1. JSON to YAML single- to multi-doc
2. Stream form, single document stream, no network/disk I/O
3. (OPTIONAL) To serialize to any kind of graph database, which would enable some useful tools and ensure representation is portable and interoperable.
4. Purely in-memory representation, but don't want to mandate specific implementation details.

"Problems that get solved from this" can be topic for next week!

Q: How do we timebox this work so we don't spend too much effort on something that may not be necessary?

One implication is the certification question, as this seems needed for certification of tools.

Observation: Specifically, we are about to implement Overlays and we are not going to apply Overlays at the OpenAPI DOM level, we are going to do it with JSON primitives because it is going to be much, much easier.

If this graph model existed then we would use that instead.
