License Plate Detection - OpenCV Python

Detecting License plate using OpenCV (python library for computer vision and image processing) and PyTesseract(python library for Optical Character Recognition - OCR). Image Processing techniques such as Image Thresholding, Canny edge detection and contour detection are used. OCR is used to read the license plate numbers.

Getting Started

Just basic understanding of Python, OpenCv and Image Processing is enough to get through.

Prerequisites

• Install Python.
• Install Python packages, by following commands

  pip install opencv-python
  pip install pytesseract
  

• Import the necessary images into the root folder to continue

Installation

1. Clone the repo

   git clone https://github.com/Praveenterax/license-plate-detection-python.git
   

2. Add the changes in the code, like modifying the tesseract package path and image name
3. Run the file, boom there you go!
