The complexity requirement here says that it should be O(N) if the container is already sorted. I don't think our std::stable_sort
implementation has that property. I also agree that it would suck to call std::is_sorted
. IMO that's worth discussing w/ LWG.

Please add this to your list of issues to discuss in LWG. This shouldn't be implementation-defined. Code becomes super brittle when users start relying on that and it's not actually guaranteed. We even have a mode of libc++ that will purposefully shuffle stuff before sorting to prevent this sort of dependency from creeping up since the Google folks were being bitten by it.

This is https://wg21.link/lwg3802 , and the fix is already done as a separate commit with "LWG3802" in the subject line.
The code for LWG3802 is unconditionally missing prior to the fix, and unconditionally present after the fix.
The tests for LWG3802 are #if 0
'ed out prior to the fix, and unconditionally enabled after the fix.
If libc++ doesn't want to merge the fix for LWG3802 until [some-unspecified-point-in-the-future], that's fine; you can just omit that specific git commit. But I'm going to leave each LWG-issue-fixing commit in this actual PR branch for now, because that makes it easier to review the intended code/tests. (Otherwise you'll just ask over and over "Why is this part of the code wrong?" and the answer will always be "Because it doesn't become correct until after LWG issue such-and-such." It doesn't make sense to review wrong code.)

I think that would be a nice place to add a _LIBCPP_DEBUG_ASSERT(is_sorted)
. In fact, please make sure that you have a _LIBCPP_ASSERT
for each precondition in this class. When the preconditions are expensive to check, we'll hide them behind the debug mode.

Oh, and let's add a libc++ specific test for all of those, they are easy to write.

I think we can actually use the hint. If the user gives us an iterator to the lower bound, then we can avoid computing it ourselves and perform the insertion directly at that location. You might be able to implement emplace
in terms of emplace_hint
in that case.

Done. I factored out an __emplace_unchecked(pos, K2&& x)
that assumes the insertion does happen, at the exact location passed to it; all the insert/emplace sites use that now.
FWIW, I see that back in 2019 @tzlaine and I discussed this exact API (on the cpplang Slack) and Zach was at least briefly considering not to provide it at all. His reasoning was:
mySet.insert(x)
is O(lg n), butmySet.insert(pos, x)
with the right hint is O(1).myFlatSet.insert(x)
is O(n), butmyFlatSet.insert(pos, x)
with the right hint is... still O(n).
Does that change your calculus at all? (Of course at this point I've already done the implementation... but it's still a fair bit of code to maintain and test, and I admit I haven't written any good tests for all the emplace_hint
corner cases yet. Ignoring the hint would be slightly less code and way fewer obscure branches to test.)

I think I like the result. Let's keep using the hint, and let's make sure we have enough tests for it.

As you said, I think you can do better here: you can remove duplicates as you're doing inplace_merge
. That would be something like a funky inplace_set_union
where the right hand side is potentially a multiset. Maybe that's too messy and not worth doing.

Can you add a comment explaining what this function does? Something like:
// Emplace the given element in the underlying container at the specified position.
// The position is assumed to be the correct position for that element, i.e. the underlying container
// should remain sorted and unique after calling this function.

It's really unfortunate that we have to do a second binary search here to avoid making this O(N)

…` tag type This is just enough of P1206 to support adding the new constructors and methods to new and/or existing containers piecemeal. No existing container has yet been touched. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D142335
The P/R gives the default for the `_Allocator` parameter on these deduction guides as variously: class Allocator = allocator<byte> class Allocator = allocator<ranges::range_value_t<R>> But since it's unconditionally rebound, we can just use `allocator<int>` and save some name lookups.
This conforming extension makes `flat_set` behave more like `set`, which is a good thing. The new "*_stability.pass.cpp" tests all fail before this commit and pass after it.
…Compare parameter This implements my proposed resolution, which changes [container.adaptors.general]/6.3 from: - It has a Container, KeyContainer, or MappedContainer template parameter and a type that qualifies as an allocator is deduced for that parameter. to: - It has a Container, KeyContainer, or MappedContainer template parameter and a type that does not qualify as a container is deduced for that parameter. and also adds to [container.alloc.reqmts]/34: - The extent to which an implementation determines that a type cannot be a container is unspecified, except that as a minimum a type C shall not qualify as a container unless the qualified-id `C::const_iterator` is valid and denotes a type. Notice that `C::iterator` is valid and denotes a type for any iterator type that inherits from `std::iterator`, including for example `std::ostream_iterator<int>`. So we don't want to make our criterion as lax as "`C::iterator` denotes a type." But checking `C::const_iterator` should be just fine.
This needs to use a little trick to convince the compiler to prefer treating `&mr` as an Allocator rather than a Compare. We make the deduction guide that takes an Allocator more-constrained, so that it is a better match.

…callback The `TypeSystemMap::m_mutex` guards against concurrent modifications of members of `TypeSystemMap`. In particular, `m_map`. `TypeSystemMap::ForEach` iterates through the entire `m_map` calling a user-specified callback for each entry. This is all done while `m_mutex` is locked. However, there's nothing that guarantees that the callback itself won't call back into `TypeSystemMap` APIs on the same thread. This lead to double-locking `m_mutex`, which is undefined behaviour. We've seen this cause a deadlock in the swift plugin with following backtrace: ``` int main() { std::unique_ptr<int> up = std::make_unique<int>(5); volatile int val = *up; return val; } clang++ -std=c++2a -g -O1 main.cpp ./bin/lldb -o “br se -p return” -o run -o “v *up” -o “expr *up” -b ``` ``` frame #4: std::lock_guard<std::mutex>::lock_guard frame #5: lldb_private::TypeSystemMap::GetTypeSystemForLanguage <<<< Lock #2 frame #6: lldb_private::TypeSystemMap::GetTypeSystemForLanguage frame #7: lldb_private::Target::GetScratchTypeSystemForLanguage ... frame #26: lldb_private::SwiftASTContext::LoadLibraryUsingPaths frame #27: lldb_private::SwiftASTContext::LoadModule frame #30: swift::ModuleDecl::collectLinkLibraries frame #31: lldb_private::SwiftASTContext::LoadModule frame #34: lldb_private::SwiftASTContext::GetCompileUnitImportsImpl frame llvm#35: lldb_private::SwiftASTContext::PerformCompileUnitImports frame llvm#36: lldb_private::TypeSystemSwiftTypeRefForExpressions::GetSwiftASTContext frame llvm#37: lldb_private::TypeSystemSwiftTypeRefForExpressions::GetPersistentExpressionState frame llvm#38: lldb_private::Target::GetPersistentSymbol frame llvm#41: lldb_private::TypeSystemMap::ForEach <<<< Lock #1 frame llvm#42: lldb_private::Target::GetPersistentSymbol frame llvm#43: lldb_private::IRExecutionUnit::FindInUserDefinedSymbols frame llvm#44: lldb_private::IRExecutionUnit::FindSymbol frame llvm#45: lldb_private::IRExecutionUnit::MemoryManager::GetSymbolAddressAndPresence frame llvm#46: lldb_private::IRExecutionUnit::MemoryManager::findSymbol frame llvm#47: non-virtual thunk to lldb_private::IRExecutionUnit::MemoryManager::findSymbol frame llvm#48: llvm::LinkingSymbolResolver::findSymbol frame llvm#49: llvm::LegacyJITSymbolResolver::lookup frame llvm#50: llvm::RuntimeDyldImpl::resolveExternalSymbols frame llvm#51: llvm::RuntimeDyldImpl::resolveRelocations frame llvm#52: llvm::MCJIT::finalizeLoadedModules frame llvm#53: llvm::MCJIT::finalizeObject frame llvm#54: lldb_private::IRExecutionUnit::ReportAllocations frame llvm#55: lldb_private::IRExecutionUnit::GetRunnableInfo frame llvm#56: lldb_private::ClangExpressionParser::PrepareForExecution frame llvm#57: lldb_private::ClangUserExpression::TryParse frame llvm#58: lldb_private::ClangUserExpression::Parse ``` Our solution is to simply iterate over a local copy of `m_map`. **Testing** * Confirmed on manual reproducer (would reproduce 100% of the time before the patch) Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D149949

TestCases/Misc/Linux/sigaction.cpp fails because dlsym() may call malloc on failure. And then the wrapped malloc appears to access thread local storage using global dynamic accesses, thus calling ___interceptor___tls_get_addr, before REAL(__tls_get_addr) has been set, so we get a crash inside ___interceptor___tls_get_addr. For example, this can happen when looking up __isoc23_scanf which might not exist in some libcs. Fix this by marking the thread local variable accessed inside the debug checks as "initial-exec", which does not require __tls_get_addr. This is probably a better alternative to llvm#83886. This fixes a different crash but is related to llvm#46204. Backtrace: ``` #0 0x0000000000000000 in ??
