RenderToolbox3 is developed by The RenderToolbox3 Team. The team includes:

  • David Brainard, RRL Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania
  • Nicolas Cottaris, Scientific Programmer in the Brainard Lab at the University of Pennsylvania
  • Benjamin Heasly, Programmer

If you make use of RenderToolbox3 in published research, please cite our methods paper which describes RenderToolbox3:

  • Heasly BS, Cottaris NP, Lichtman DP, Xiao B, Brainard DH, "RenderToolbox3: MATLAB tools that facilitate physically based stimulus rendering for vision research", J Vis. 2014 Feb 7, 14(2).

RenderToolbox3 has a predecessor, RenderToolbox2. RenderToolbox2 was developed by Daniel Lichtman, Bei Xiao, and David Brainard. RenderToolbox2 is no longer under development, supported, or easily available. Version 3 represents a rewrite from the ground up, but does borrow conceptual ideas from RenderToolbox2 and incorporate lessons learned from the development and use of RenderToolbox2.
