Things like the definitions, layouts, possibly the imagesets (the xml parts anyway) would be more useful if they were part of the git repo.

Issues like #146 and #130 will be much easier for it. Put images on imgur or something, push xmls to the repo, and collaboration is easy.

Will probably only involve some messy mucking about with the gitignore.

Oh yeah, I did this yesterday for #146, but just the definitions for now. Other things might come later.

Right, since the gitignore now has some hints for people who want to unignore more asset files, this issue doesn't really need to exist in and of itself any more.
