New messages after the initial load should be collapsed

Similar to how twitter does it at the top of their feed. Though we'll need to do it in the correct spot when anything new comes in, which might be tricky.

I know exactly what you mean, instead maybe we can just show new messages automatically with a different css class or something? I like of like that it can idle in the background and I can see new messages without having to click anything. Thoughts?

Yeah, so long as there is some motion to them appearing instead of just suddenly being there it should be ok. A quick expansion animation should work.
