Ability to use Stellarium to enter sextant sightings and reduce to vessel position in longitude and latitude. Running calculation sheet to see procedure steps and results such as factoring in refraction and dip angle. Possibly include vessel motion between sightings for more accuracy (eg shifting line of position).

Tutorial explaining concepts with some examples.

Nice project, maybe not too difficult, but should be done by, or at least in close collaboration with, somebody with navigational teaching experience. It is to be assumed that the tutorial text is geared towards navigators who have the relevant books (nautical tables) for data reduction. Some examplary excerpt will have to be included for reference (copyright?). Stellarium can of course provide positional data, but the dev team (I think) does not have the practical experience. (I have a theoretical paper and a sextant, but no sea :-)

This is a good task for the community to participate in the contribution into Stellarium. Who wants to help us?
