How can I edit the shell command before executing it?

Is there a way to edit the shell command before executing it? I couldn't find any (other than copy-pasting).

Not really. We may need to edit any part of the command (options, etc.)

Would that be a problem to add an option to edit the command? That's what https://github.com/microsoft/Codex-CLI does.

What you want seems to be shell integration. You may take a look at this #194.

Maybe. I've just had access to Copilot CLI (which has an edit option, BTW), so I'm going to try both and pick one.

I opened #344 to suggest this before I saw Discussion in use.

I use a tool called atuin to track and make searchable my shell history across terminals and hosts. One of its nicest features is that I can open its TUI, find the command that I want (from 6 minutes or 6 months ago), and if it's exactly the command I want I hit Opt+ and it executes. Otherwise I hit Shift+ and I get the selected value at the cursor and I can go replace the hostname or delay, add a command to a loop, or correct a forever-recorded-in-history typo. This is invaluable and saves me a lot of having to hit the mouse to copy, as I have to do with sgpt if I [A]bort.

I'd love to see something like

[E]dit, E[x]ecute, [D]escribe, [A]bort

for options, but of course E is pretty well enshrined as Execute...

For ZSH/Bash we can use shell integration which allows to edit suggested commands right away.
